Following the High Court's verdict, all public and private
universities in the country have been directed to stop celebrating 'Rag Day'.
University Grants Commission (UGC) member Professor Dr
Biswajit Chand confirmed the information on Monday night.
He said the UGC instructed the universities to stop Rag
Day celebration following a High Court verdict.
An office order signed by UGC's private university division
director Md Omar Faruque on Monday night directed to stop the celebration of
Rag Day at the private university.
It said that an order of Writ Petition No. 4515/2022 of the
High Court Division of the Supreme Court directed to immediately stop all sorts
of obscenity, nudity, DJ party, indecent behaviour, cruel and prohibited activities
and bullying in the name of celebrating Rag Day in all educational institutions
of the country.
The order further said that all the private universities
have been directed to take necessary steps to stop such activities immediately
as per the directions mentioned by the High Court Division.
